MCA – Micronized Copper Azole

It's safe. It's certified. It's the latest generation of wood preservative.

With dozens of wood treating facilities and decades of innovation behind us, UFP Industries is widely regarded as a leader in wood treating processes. Nowhere is this more evident than in the treating plants that produce ProWood® treated lumber.

UFP Industries utilizes a proven technique for producing ProWood lumber and products. Our treating experts load high-quality ProWood lumber into pressurized cylinders, then force micronized preservative-containing copper and biocides into the wood. During the pressure-treating process, those particles are suspended — rather than dissolved — in a wood preservative solution. The micronized copper eliminates the need for a solvent, which is required for other treatment methods. The preservative penetrates the wood's cellular structure, giving ProWood lumber long-lasting resistance to decay and termites.

Clean, odorless, non-staining and non-irritating, ProWood MCA (micronized copper azole) treated lumber is safe for humans, animals and the environment. The process we use to treat has gained Environmentally Preferable Product (EPP) status as certified by Scientific Certification Systems (SCS), a third-party certification services and standards development company. The preservative in ProWood MCA treated lumber has earned NGBS Green Certification and the GREENGUARD Gold Certification.
