Top 5 Deck Trends for 2017

If you’re planning to build a deck or add to your existing deck, check out these top five deck trends for 2017.
1. Picture Framing
Give your deck a finished look with a picture frame design, which got its name from framing a deck like it’s a piece of art. It can be as simple as adding a single board around the perimeter of the deck. Adding two or three single boards takes it to the next level of sophistication and creates a clean, finished look that beautifully conceals the ends of deck boards. Picture framing defines the shape of the deck and calls attention to stairs and edges.
2. Mixed Materials
This may be our favorite deck trend at ProWood®. Picture this: Your wood deck complemented by beautiful Deckorators® aluminum balusters and glass post caps. Mixing materials adds a pleasing and welcoming atmosphere. This trend also gives you the freedom to customize your deck with an assortment of post caps and aluminum baluster styles.
3. Concrete as an Accent
More and more, we’re seeing concrete inside the home, on things such as counter tops and flooring, to create an industrial look. You can bring this trend outside to the deck or porch. Try it with concrete planters. They add vegetation to the deck, giving it a touch of modern tranquility. Or take a more dramatic route and incorporate a concrete fire pit to add some heat.
4. Deck Board Patterns
We’re seeing more homeowners create patterns – like herringbone or parquet – with their wood flooring – so why not do it with your deck boards? Your deck can be an extension of your kitchen, living room or game room, where you can entertain family and friend, or enjoy a book. Bringing the comfort and coziness of the inside of your home to the outdoors!
5. Multilevel Deck
Consider adding different levels to your deck. Having a multilevel deck allows you to incorporate multiple living areas, adding more functionality than a single-level deck would. You and your guests can enjoy your backyard to its fullest.
