Desperate No More

Desperate no more!

We put a stamp on another desperate-to-dazzling deck makeover, and the recipient, Amy Spoonhower of Gordonsville, Va., is beginning to enjoy what promises to be years of parties, deck sleepovers and quiet mornings viewing the beautiful rolling hills of Virginia.

Amy, a middle school science teacher, won our Desperate Deck Contest in August 2014. The contest asked people to submit pictures of their desperate decks for a chance to win a $20,000 makeover with ProWood lumber and Deckorators accents. There were many worthy entries, but Amy’s small wooden backyard “porch” was deemed most desperate by our judges. Now she’s raving about the final result!

“My daughter and my fiancé’s daughter love the fire pit and want to roast marshmallows and have sleepovers on the deck,” said Amy. “My entire faculty wants a deck party, which I am more than ready to provide.  When you live in a rural area, it is difficult to entice your friends and family to make the time and travel commitment to visit you.  With my cooking, new grill and awesome deck, I just may be able to host an incredible party at my home!”

Her new deck features a wide-open dining area, raised octagon with bench seating for propane-fueled fire pit and a grill bump out for an oversized smoker grill. Add-on accessories include Deckorators® Black Classic Balusters, Victoria High Point post caps and low-voltage recessed LED lights.
