ProWood Project Plans - Children's Sized Picnic Table

There are regular backyard projects and then there are those special backyard projects that bring families closer together, both during the construction and while enjoying the finished project. If you want to improve your backyard with a special project but aren’t sure what to build, here are five fun ideas that the entire family can work on and enjoy together:

Wood raised-garden planter – A great way to introduce kids to gardening, raised planters are more ergonomically friendly than garden beds and can extend your growing season. ProWood has a few project plans for planters to make it easy.

Wood tree house or playhouse – What child doesn’t dream of his or her own play space? Add a ladder, slide, climbing wall or other extras for more fun.

Wood swing set – Either attached to a playhouse or as a stand-alone project, be sure to use quality pressure-treated lumber so that it lasts longer and is sturdy enough for kids and grown-ups.

Wood sandbox – Build it with higher walls and you’ll reduce the amount of sand that’s lost. Add a cover to keep out the elements and animals. Add a base to make it more secure.

Picnic table – ProWood has project plans for building both kids' and full-size picnic tables.

You can see other fun project ideas and plans here.

To make your project more appealing and reduce upkeep, use ProWood pressure-treated lumber. ProWood has a lighter appearance than most other treated lumber, and ProWood Dura Color is color-infused to provide the natural look of redwood or cedar without any staining or painting. Just as nice, ProWood has gained Environmentally Preferable Product (EPP) status and earned NAHB’s Green Approved Product certification and the GREENGUARD Children & Schools Certification.
