Borate Treated Lumber

Eco-friendly protection at its finest.

Borate-treated lumber is preferred by contractors and homeowners for building lasting protection into any home. Treated with natural, environmentally safe mineral salts, Borate treated lumber resists whatever nature dishes out, including the devastating Formosan termite, whose colonies can eat 1,000 pounds of wood a year.

Distinguished by its bluish hue, this lumber is rot-resistant and protects against:

  • Standard termites
  • Carpenter ants
  • Roaches
  • Dry rot
  • Fungal Decay
  • Wood-boring beetles

Designed for interiors. Tough enough for sill plates. Guaranteed for life.

Borate products are versatile, durable and reliable. They include solid wood, such as lumber and plywood, and wood composites like oriented strand board (OSB).

Designed for interior applications, borates shouldn’t be used for unprotected exterior applications, but they deliver added termite protection for sill plates at a cost less than other treated wood. Borate treated lumber is compatible with the same fasteners used for untreated wood –– carbon steel, galvanized steel, copper and silicon bronze –– so there’s no need to spend extra on special fasteners.

We’re so confident of this product’s performance that we back borate treated lumber with a limited warranty (pdf - 120 KB) against termites.

Uses for Borates include:

  • Sill plates
  • Studs
  • Plywood
  • Joists
  • Rafters
  • OSB panels
